Shown here is a very old water meter once used in the Town of Trappe. It could be one from the original installation. Construction on the water system began in 1927. Customers were originally billed by the number of spigots in the house but by 1933 water meters were being installed.      By the early 1950s the meters were abandoned and customers were billed based on a flat rate plan until the water system was upgraded in 1998, and new meters were installed. Many of the old meters, like the one shown, were still operating when they were replaced during the upgrade. [Robert Croswell]
