The Gables, a cluster of small, sharply peaked
buildings on Rt. 50 was one of the first convenience
stores in the area. It sold gas, groceries and lawn
ornaments and even had a small travel trailer court
out back and was conveniently located next to the
Super 50 drive in movie. It was built in the early
1950s. Originally intended to be a package goods
store, but strong local opposition prevented a liquor
license from ever being issued. This advertising card
dates from before 1955, when the old phone numbers
like Trappe 2081 changed to GReenfield or 476
numbers.
