On Aug, 29, 1962, Gov. Millard Tawes and some other dignitaries came
to Trappe to dedicate the second lane of Rt. 50 making it a dual
highway. This was a big deal for Trappe and attended by a big crowd.
Sam Cannon from WCEM in Cambridge broadcast the event on the radio.
The first photo shows the ribbon stretched across what would be the
new east bound lane for Rt. 50 at the intersection near the traffic
light. Photo two shows Gov. Tawes cutting the ribbon. Photo three shows
head of the Trappe Town Council Maurice Adams giving a speech from the
speakers platform. Photo four shows the back view of the speaker's
platform which was actually the bed of a State Roads truck. Photos by
Josephine C. Dawson.
