Bolingbroke is said to be named for Lord Bolingbroke who was Prime Minister for Queen Elizabeth I, but if so he certainly never came here. Bolingbroke Neck has a number of nice old estates: Chancellor's Point Farm, Ingleside, Jamaica Pt. and Cherry Grove. Several of the old houses were built by the Hughlett family who ran a shipyard at Jamaica Pt. in the mid 1800s. Actor Robert Mitchum lived at Belmont Farm in the late 1950s.
